Interior trend forecast

These days, it is difficult to come across a stock standard Cape Town apartment that is decorated just like everyone else’s. It is even more difficult to come across an apartment in Cape Town that prescribes to the trends found in any home décor magazine, that is because the trends are far more blurry than ever, as Capetonians decorate their homes to suit their own personalities and to suit their own individual needs.

But trends come about as a way of reflecting a collective consciousness, what and how society is thinking at that particular time and therefore, even a trend towards individuality is nonetheless still a trend.

According to Li Edelkoort, a trend forecaster, we are currently yearning for nature, and this will soon be reflected in how we dress, our architecture and of course how we choose to decorate our Cape apartment.
Li Edelkoort funnily enough predicts the dissolving of a strictly individualistic era, which will have a great impact on urban planning and architecture and a move towards a sense of community that has been forgotten in recent years. This will in turn awaken in us a desire for a more intense relationship with nature, which Li relates to a religious or spiritual experience.

Li Edelkoort predicts that we will be inspired by beehives, as representing both a communal and common space and we will apply this modularity to the way we build and decorate our apartments in Cape Town.
Currently modularity is being incorporated into our living spaces, but it will change to take on a more soulful structure.

She also predicts that our homes will continue to be the place where we express our creativity, but they are set to take on a more mature form of decoration and will no longer be filled with the toys and nostalgic pieces that so many of our Cape apartments are decorated with at present.
