Top Cape Town art galleris


For keen art lovers looking to decorate their lavish Camps Bay apartments with contemporary South African art, here are a list of some of the best respected Cape Town art galleries, respected by artists and collectors alike. While most of them are not found in Camps Bay, but mostly in Greenpoint and Woodstock, it is worth the trip into town to find the piece that offsets the décor of your accommodation in Camps Bay.

Wessel Snyman Creative, is a young gallery which exhibits emerging contemporary creative talent.

What if the World operates out of Woodstock and tends to exhibit the work of the cool kids of the creative scene.

The Michael Stevenson Gallery has been dealing in South African art since 1990 and is easily one of the most respected galleries in Cape Town. It originally specialized in 19th and 20th century painting, but now focuses on all media by contemporary artists.

The Michaelis Gallery is affiliated with the Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT and is situated on Hiddingh campus. It exhibits students and lecturers work as well as the work of international artists.

The Irma Stern Museum and Art Gallery is the former house of the famous expressionist, Irma Stern. Painting of the artist are exhibited throughout the house and contemporary artists show their work in the gallery space that occupies the top floor.

Joao Ferreira Gallery features the work of established South African artists and caters mostly to serious collectors.

The Everard Read gallery is situated just outside the V&A Waterfront and exhibits traditional and contemporary painting and sculpture.

The AVA (Association for Visual Arts) is open Mondays to Fridays and exhibits the work of three artists at any given time.
34 Long Fine Art is found on Long Street and exhibits the work of established South African artists as well as International artists, it is a favorite among serious collectors.
